Ann
Hampton Callaway is one of the most widely acclaimed singer/songwriters
working in pop/jazz today. The award winning artist has received
national attention from television audiences for her song
"The Nanny Named Fran" which she wrote and performs for the
CBS television comedy hit "THE NANNY". Another of Ann's compositions,
"AT THE SAME TIME" was recently performed by Barbara Streisand
for President Clinton in Los Angeles and was recorded for
Streisand's CD, "Higher Ground" which debuted nationally at
#1.
Ann's CD, "AFTER OUR" On Denon Records features jazz pianist
Kenny Barron and legendary bass artist Jay Leonhart. Another
recent /CD Entitled To Ella with Love on Touchwood Records,
was recorded with jazz greats Wynton Marsalis, Cyrus Chestnut,
Christian McBride and Lewis Nash as a tribute to jazz legend
ELLA FITGERALD and features some of her best loved standards.
Ann performed selections from the CD at the recent Carnegie
Hall Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald.
Ann's
other recent CD recordings are BRING BACK ROMANCE (DRG) and
ANN HAMPTON CALLAWAY (DRG), sibling Beverly with her sister,
Broadway musical star Liz Callaway and numerous recordings
for Ben Bagley including the Cole Porter Revisited Series.
The Cole Porter Foundation officially recognizes Ann Hampton
Callaway as the only composer to have collaborated with Cole
Porter having set her music to his recently discovered lyric,
"I GAZE IN YOUR EYES".
Ann has performed internationally and nationally in all major
venues, concert halls and jazz festivals. She has also performed
at Moscow's Estrada Theatre and was invited to sing for former
President Gorbachev for the Youth Peace Summit. Most recently,
Ann performed in Washington D.C. for President Clinton. She
has also appeared on numerous national televisions shows such
as The Today Show, CNN, The Charlie Rose Show, The Oprah Winfrey
Show, Charles Grodin, ABC News, PBS and BBC.
She returned form a critically-acclaimed two week engagement
at London's Piaza on the Park and performed her This Christmas
show at Maxim's in New York last December. In 1998 her national
tour includes: Washington, Miami, Dallas, Houston, San Francisco,
Los Angeles, Boston, Denver, Seattle, Chicago and Paris.
Ann most recently recorded a special Christmas album for Angel
Records entitled, This Christmas which was released nationally
as of October 20th. She also recorded a second CD for Touchwood
Records this spring accompanied by legendary musicians George
Shearing and Tommy Flanagan for a late summer 1998 release.
Ann appeared in New York last fall at Carnegie Hall with Skitch
Henderson and the New York Pops and performed with the Boston
Pops this January.
Ann was born a raised in Chicago. Her father is John Callaway,
a former CBS News correspondent and current host of the PBS
show Chicago Tonight. Her mother Shirley Callaway, is a prominent
Broadway vocal coach. Ann resides in New York.
