Birthday:
April 30, 1976
Birth Place: Cleveland, Ohio
Birth Name: Scott Thomas Savol
Scott Savol born and raised until age 10 in Cleveland, Ohio
when his family packed up and moved to Shaker Heights, Ohio
for its intergrated community. Scott is the second of four
children to Cathy and Eddie Savol. He has two sisters, Stacy
and Patricia, and a brother, Michael. An elated uncle to Vincent,
Mikayla, Kathleen, Alexander and Michael jr and is the proud
papa to his pride and joy 4 year old, Brandon. His son, Brandon
remains the greatest driving force in Scott's life.
Scott's musical career started very early on as a lil tyke
running around playing air guitar on pots and began officially
singing at the prime age of 5 years old. A young amateur at
the age of 6, Scott took on the task of singing at his younger
sister's, Patty's Baptism. Scott wasn't an ounce nervous at
his first public appearance. By the age of 7, he could be
found singing duets with his aunt.
During his high school days, Scott joined the school's choir
where he received some vocal training. Scott's former school
choir's director, Ron Morgan has said before how he can still
see Scott in his aisle seat in the tenor section, singing
with passion and losing himself in the music. Scott's musical
ability increases as he knows his way around a piano and some
trumpet playing dating back to high school. Scott missed the
opportunity of graduating with his class, but succeeded by
earning his GED instead. In 2001, Scott and ex-girlfriend,
Michele welcomed into the world their son, Brandon. Known
as one of Scott's proudest moments.
Prior
to American Idol success, Scott's performances could be seen
singing at weddings, community functions and church. Invited
to the church, New Spirit by a coworker at the county jail
where he used to work, Scott made an awe inspiring performance
of a well known gospel song made famous by Fred Hammond. The
church's choir director, Tim "Bo" Clinton was so
impressed by Scott's vocal ability he states: "When he
opened his mouth, I was like, oh my goodness, who is this
guy?" Scott soon after joined the church's elite "Praise
Team" choir. Those closest to Scott, say he found a peace
in his new church and has been with them ever since.
Scott has worked several different jobs from working with
the county jail to a security guard before taking a jump on
the American Idol bandwagon. Thanks to an age limit change
to 28 and a second's moments notice of an audition happening
in Cleveland, Scott jumped on the train and auditioned in
front of Randy, Paula and Simon in the Summer of 2004. His
first appearance to the viewing audience was an optimistic
and passionate snipet of Luther Vandross' "Superstar"
quickly winning over the admiration of the hard to please,
sharped tongued judge, Simon. And earning him the legions
of fans nation and internationally wide.
Scott's
tenure on American Idol had made a huge impact on millions
for many different reasons. He's stated in several interviews
how he considers himself just the everyday kind of guy following
his dream. For others it was simply his passion that he emits
when he performs that won their hearts. Although his time
on American Idol came to an abrupt end on May 4th after a
rave reviewed performace, just days after his 29th birthday,
Scott's optimism remains steadfast. He's already been shown
major interest through important names within the music industry
long before his departure from the show.
He has since returned to where it all began; Cleveland, Ohio,
greeted by his many hometown fans. Performing at different
venues to loud and happy audiences. Scott is known to sign
autographs, take pictures and chat with his fans for however
many hours it takes. Its his loyalty and dedication to his
fans that keeps Scott's charm going strong. Among the many
interviews Scott's done after the show, he's been interviewed
on such acclaimed shows as CBS' Early Morning show, Regis
and Kelly, ET and made performances on the Tonight Show and
Ellen among others. Currently, Scott and the rest of his American
Idol cohorts are rehearsing for this years tour which begins
July 12th. He'll be making a hometown stop to a packed arena
of his biggest fans, some who are traveling from far across
the nation, in Cleveland, Ohio on August 2nd.
