"Music
of Yesterday and Today, Played the Big Band Way"
Welcome to the days when dancing meant romance. Timid embraces.
Softly held hands. Cheeks gently touching. A single kiss good
night.
The New York City Big Band captures those Saturday night sounds
of Gershwin... Kern... Porter... and goes one step further. It
brings contemporary music to the forefront. The New York City
Big Band is a renaissance that bridges the musical gap between
yesterday and today.
The
concept of the old meeting the new was developed by the group's
founder, Clem DeRosa (right), who led the Glenn Miller Orchestra on
several major European concert tours, and produced two of
their albums. DeRosa explains, "the acoustical sound of the
big band sound must be preserved, but it can only be sustained
if the songs are relevant to the youth of today."
The New York City Big Band pays tribute and respect to the
great songs and sounds of the past and adds to its repertoire
the songs and sounds of the '20's through the '80's. With
the Centennial celebration of Cole Porter's birth, the band
had toured A Night of Anything
Goes through 1993. The Band continues to be the orchestral
back-up for the show Les
