“Blizzard was a wonderful ambassador and this memorial is a great way to recognize his contribution wherever you took him. Congrats to you and your wife for giving him the opportunity to show people what a great and loving friend ferrets can be.”

Blizzard lived in northwestern Virginia.
He was born 12/18/2002 at Marshall Farms in New York State. He was helped over The Rainbow Bridge on 8/07/08 at approximately 5:45am in Fairfax, Virginia.
Blizzard, in his geneology, is a decendant from the Euopean
Polecat (specifically from England), so we understand. His
first cousin in the USA is the American Black-Footed Ferret.
Blizzard's human Dad had the opportunity to take some pictures
of the BFF. They were featured in the November 2005 issue
of Ferrets Anonymous Newletter. Please

As many of you know Blizzard had an adverse reaction to a rabies vaccine on 7/12/07. After two doctors worked on him for a 1/2 hour, he remained with this world for almost 13 more months enjoying everyday. However, Mongo was not as lucky. The Mongo Memorial Distemper Titer Study Fund has been set up i n honor of Mongo, Dr. Heller, with support from the American Ferret Association is heading up a study to measure the titer levels in ferrets who have previously been vaccinated against canine distemper virus. The study will consist of ferrets of various ages with varying vaccination histories.

Ferreting Out The Truth
article from the Washington Post, Wednesday, November 9, 2005;
Page C16
There are about 8 million pet ferrets in the United States.
Ferrets have been kept as pets for more than 2,500 years.
Females are called jills, males are hobs, babies are kits
and a group is called a business. Average lifespan: six to
eight years. Cousins of weasels, skunks and minks. They are
not rodents. They are perfectly built for chasing small animals
out of their holes, thus the term "ferret out" --
as in, "ferret out the truth."
The black-footed ferret, the only wild ferret native to North
America, is endangered because its main food source, the prairie
dog, has largely disappeared.
